What a Difference a Year Can Make

A year ago at this time, I blogged about starting my own company. As I pursued this dream, I not only gained valuable insight into running my own business, but I also gained a newfound sense of self. It is incredibly empowering to set high goals for yourself and to systematically achieve them… And I found myself changed by the experience.

Over the past year, I met some amazing and talented people. I continued working with others whose passion and accomplishments not only make me proud to say they are a client, but also inspire me. And of course, I fell in love with a company that I truly respect…so much so, that when they offered me a full-time position, I accepted.

But it was the experience of working for myself that really changed who I am as a designer. It gave me back the confidence that I didn’t even know was lacking in my work. I started to think more strategically: not just about client work, but also about my career. I began to communicate better and to fuel my creativity more effectively. Further, I’ve noticed that no challenge is too daunting for me to tackle.

As 2013 has unfolded over the past few months, I have been continually comparing Then to Now, Old Me to New Me. However, the growth doesn’t stop here. This sense of accomplishment is only a springboard for the future. New projects are on the horizon. A new studio space is currently in the works. And some big news is about to be unveiled. So stay tuned to hear more.
